In an innovative move, Pirelli is partnering with Italy’s Apulia region to debut a pioneering road‑condition monitoring system powered by Cyber-Tire sensor technology. This marks a world first for tyre-based infrastructure surveillance.
What’s the Pilot All About?

Beginning July 2025, a fleet of vehicles equipped with sensor-enabled Pirelli tyres and visual monitoring cameras—provided by Univrses—will traverse Apulia’s roads.

These Cyber Tyres continuously gather data on road surface roughness, asphalt irregularities, temperature, and tyre pressure. Proprietary algorithms then merge this with live footage of road pavements and signage.

The collected data is sent to a cloud platform and displayed via dashboards for regional authorities, supporting proactive, data-driven decision-making on road upkeep and safety.
No Crowd‑Sourced Data—Fleet‑Only Monitoring
Rather than risking privacy or data inconsistency through public vehicles, the pilot uses a dedicated fleet supplied by Ayvens, ensuring standardised and accurate road-sensing results.

Apulia’s governor, Michele Emiliano, aptly described the initiative:
“Technology can save lives … useful as a thermometer of the state of health of our roads”.
